Ninja Slayer, the cyberpunk ninja drama that started on Twitter, is getting an anime adaptation in spring 2015, the title of which is Ninja Slayer From Animation. In charge of production is the up-and-coming anime studio Trigger, which created the huge hit Kill la Kill, and similar to this previous work, Ninja Slayer From Animation will be directed by Akira Amemiya. Now, a trailer to the anime has been released on the official site. This is the first chance for expectant fans to see visuals of the anime.
Characters are seen one after the next in the trailer, which is backed by the main theme song “Back in Black” by Boom Boom Satellites. Not just the main character Ninja Slayer, but also the popular female character Koki Yamoto, Yukano, Nancy Lee, and even Ninja Slayer’s archnemesis, Dark Ninja, make appearances. The trailer markedly depicts the world of Ninja Slayer and will serve to heighten anticipation for the anime adaptation.
Ninja Slayer is a unique novel that began on Twitter. What was published by Americans Bradley Bond and Philip N. Morzez was then translated by a team in Japan and distributed. These were then collected into books and published. The series is a hit with over 300,000 copies in print. The story is set in a near-futuristic city called Neo Saitama and depicts the revenge tragedy of Kenji Fujikido, a salaryman whose wife and child were murdered by a ninja. The series has gained acclaim for its slightly skewed view of Japanese culture and its characteristic dialogue.
Though visuals of the anime can now be seen for the first time, information on the anime is sparse. The broadcast schedule and how the anime will be released are still unknown. Look forward to follow-up information to come.
