"Knights of Sidonia the Movie" Teaser Releases, Reconstruction of the TV Series in 133 Minutes, Next Generation Visuals Come to the Big Screen

The teaser trailer for Knights of Sidonia the Movie that was shockingly announced during an event on Nov. 23 has been completed and was released on Dec. 5. The teaser is roughly 30 seconds long, but opens up to the amazing visuals that garnered the TV series huge acclaim. It is plenty to raise anticipation for the movie, which will release on March 6, 2015.

A poster visual created just for the movie was also released on Dec. 5. Main character Nagate Tanikaze and heroine Shizuka Hoshijiro stand tall and and look impressive in their slightly gallant poses.

The movie is a reconstruction by director Koubun Shizuno himself of the TV series, which was broadcast for three months beginning in April. According to the information released at this time, the movie has an impressive run-time of over two hours, at 133 minutes.

The movie may be a restructuring of the TV series, but it doesn’t stop at being a simple summary. In creating the movie, many unreleased cuts from different angles were included and the sound effects were created anew. Moreover, the quality has been risen to an even higher level, which can be seen from the information released as well.

Above all, though, the anime Knights of Sidonia was originally created with a level of quality for the screen size it would be played on. Because the visuals take into account the big screens of movie theaters, it’s safe to say the movie will show the true essence of the series.

As of Dec. 5, nine screens in seven cities across Japan––Sapporo, Sendai, Tokyo, Saitama, Aichi, Osaka, and Fukuoka––have been confirmed. Also, the movie will only have a short two-week run, so make sure to mark your calendar. You’ll want to experience this movie in theaters.

Knights of Sidonia is an anime adaptation of a masterpiece manga by author Tsutomu Nihei. The story has a grand premise: It is set 1,000 years after the destruction of the solar system, and humanity struggles against an unknown enemy that appeared suddenly called Gauna. Polygon Pictures, one of Japan’s leading digital animation studios, is in charge of bringing this intense story to life.

The anime was released in Japan as well as abroad, and it is gathering high acclaim. A new TV series called Knights of Sidonia: War of the Ninth Planet has also been confirmed for April 2015. Look forward to both of these.
