Psycho-Pass Movie Teaser Releases, Veil is Removed at Last, Stage Changes from Japan to the World

New information on Psycho-Pass: The Movie has been released. The movie is a sequel to the popular TV anime series, and will release all throughout Japan on Jan. 9, 2015. Up until this point, characters and visuals, scenery of the world and, of course, the story has been hush-hush.

On Nov. 27 at the Noitamina Project Press Conference 2015 held at Mediage in Odaiba, Tokyo, a key visual of the movie, screenshots, and cast information were all revealed for the first time. At the same time, a preview was released. Finally, the world of the movie has been revealed.

Psycho-Pass is a popular anime that was broadcast from October 2012 to March 2013. It was directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro of Bayside Shakedown fame and became popular for influential creator Gen Urobuchi’s involvement as story planner and scriptwriter. Urobuchi is known for his work on Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Kamen Rider Gaim. Directing is Naoyoshi Shiotani of Production I.G and the character planner is influential manga artist Akira Amano. Amano has created Weekly Shonen Jump’s Katekyo Hitman Reborn! and other works.

The series gained popularity for its near-futuristic setting in which people lived out their lives based on a numerical value placed on their mental state and for its unpredictable developments. The series is currently in its second season, and the story has become even sharper with Tow Ubukata of Mardock Scramble and Ghost in the Shell: Arise fame in charge of the series’ composition.

There are likely many fans who have waited for Psycho-Pass: The Movie, which continues from the second season, without any information on what kind of story it will be. In addition to a visual, a synopsis of the story has now been released. According to this, the setting isn’t just Japan, but has spread even abroad. The second season is nearing its climax and anticipation is high for the movie.

[Summary]
The world reaches toward the peace of prohibition (system).
Year 2016 – Roughly four years have passed since Akane Tsunemori was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division of the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Public Safety Bureau. The Japanese government has finally begun exporting the Sibyl System and drones to the world. Han, chairman of the SEAUn (the South East Asia Union, pronounced "shian"), which is in the midst of a long-running civil war, adopts the Sibyl System in the capital of Shambala Float. Even within the conflict areas where bullets were flying left and right, the seaside city of Shambala Float was able achieve a brief peace. The Sibyl System experiment was going smoothly...or so it seemed.

At the same time, armed illegal immigrants sneak into Japan. They are fully knowledgeable on Japan’s defence system and circumvent the Sibyl System’s surveillance to conduct terrorist acts. After the Sibyl System is enforced, a team from the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division led by Inspector Akane Tsunemori is dispatched to investigate the unprecedented case. She confronts the illegal immigrants. Before long, someone who seems to be guiding the terrorists surfaces.

That person is...a former Enforcer of the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division. And it’s someone Akane used to work with. Akane alone then heads to Shambala Float to investigate, in order to find out the motive of this person she trusted, in order to understand the justice he believes in.
