The popular manga Blood Blockade Battlefront by Yasuhiro Nightow, who has a diehard fanbase thanks to his works including Trigun, is getting a TV anime adaptation. This work serialized in Shueisha’s manga magazine Jump SQ.19 is set in a city called Jerusalem’s Lot, a mixing of this world and another that used to be New York. The series depicts a secret society that moves in the shadows called Libra that protects the equilibrium of the world.
Blood Blockade Battlefront has a gritty story indicative of Nightow, edgy drama between people, and tons of action. It’s the perfect work to become an anime. Because of this, it likely can be said that this is an anime long awaited by fans.
Even the staff participating in the anime adaptation are stellar. Producing the anime is Bones, a company that has produced countless popular series including Eureka Seven and Space Dandy. Because Bones is known for its high quality, Blood Blockade Battlefront as well is being hotly anticipated.
Directing the anime is Rie Matsumoto. Matsumoto is a new face who worked on the PreCure series and was the series director of Kyosogiga. She has been highly praised for her fresh and abundantly unique direction, and this time she’s challenging herself with a new genre.
Also, in charge of the character designs is Toshihiro Kawamoto. Kawamoto is a popular animator in Japan and abroad for his work on Cowboy Bebop, Noragami, Golden Boy, and others. The lead artist is Shinji Kimura of Steamboy and Blue Exorcist the Movie, and the scriptwriter is Kazunao Furuya from the world of live-action dramas. Enthusiasm for the anime is conveyed even through the lineup of this truly talented team.
The voice cast has also been announced. The lineup of all-star names includes Akira Ishida, Unsho Ishizuka, Shinji Ogawa, Akio Otsuka, Ai Orikasa, Rie Kugimiya, Yu Kobayashi, Rikiya Koyama, Daisuke Sakaguchi, Kazuya Nakai, Keiji Fujiwara, Hikaru Midorikawa, Mamoru Miyano, and Mitsuru Miyamoto. The announcement of their respective characters is forthcoming.
A teaser visual has also been released. Shown on the visual are the leader of the secret organization Libra, Klaus, main character Leonard who meets by chance a member of Libra, and Zap, a member of Libra. The background of the visual shows the cityscape of Jerusalem’s Lot. Don’t take your eyes off of future developments in this large-scale series coming in 2015.
