Anime Produced by Embassy of Israel in Japan Releases, Shows Drama with a Comedic Touch About Sisters Who Travel to Israel

Episode 1 of Ii ne! Israel - Saki to Noriko no Shimai Ryoko, an anime produced by the Embassy of Israel in Japan, was released online in time for “International Animation Day” on Oct. 28. This is the first time an embassy in Tokyo has promoted its own country through an anime series.

The anime shows Saki, who was invited by her sister Noriko to travel to Israel, learning all about the charms of Israel that she knew absolutely nothing about prior. The anime has both comedy and drama, with the first episode ending with some heavy news coming to light during the sisters’ trip in Israel. There will be seven episodes total. Just what will happen on their trip?

Is Saki-chan serious?
“Don’t harp on me for being an English lit grad!”

Shalom-chan, the embassy’s first mascot character, was also announced during the project, and, just like the anime, is a tribute to Japan’s pop culture. Shalom-chan is currently being used as a character for explaining Israel in anime and more.
