The staff who worked on Anohana have gotten back together and set out on creating a new work to release next year. This was announced at “Anohana Summer Festival in Chichibu Final” held in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture on Aug. 31. The announcement came at the end of the event and was followed by fireworks and other festivities that showed how much effort they are putting into the work.
However, the amount of new information released is small. All that has been released is an illustration of an egg on a special page on the official site for Anohana on Sept. 1; the title isn’t even known.
Known information about the staff includes Tatsuyuki Nagai as director, Mari Okada as screenplay writer, and Masayoshi Tanaka as character designer. This team is known for their masterpiece Toradora! and they also worked together on Anohana. This likely gives fans plenty to anticipate.
Another important piece of information known is that the series will take place in Chichibu, the same location as Anohana. It is unclear what the series’ connection to Anohana is, but there is a high chance it will depict the lives of adolescents.
Moreover, the work is a movie and it will be a completely original anime. Because Anohana the Movie was just a restructuring of the TV anime, this as well is big news. The movie will release in 2015. Producing the animation is A-1 Pictures and the distributor is Aniplex, the same two from Anohana. Aniplex and Fuji TV are also participating on the production.
Regardless of it having been more than a year since the release of the movie, 15,000 fans participated in “Anohana Summer Festival in Chichibu Final” on the 31. Also, the venue was stuffed with over 3,000 people. Though time has passed, Anohana continues to still be loved. Will the new anime announced be a work loved for as long as Anohana? Look forward to its release next year.
