A collaborative festival between Yowamushi Pedal and a bike race will be held on Sept. 7 at the Chiba Velodrome. The name of the festival is “Chiba Cycle Festa: Yowamushi Pedal Ride.” This is the second time the festival will be held, following the “2nd Bicycle Race” held on Sunday, April 20. A great number of cosplayers attended the previous event.
The event is a tie-in with the second season of the Yowamushi Pedal TV anime, Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road, which will begin airing in October. Events themed after Yowamushi Pedal are being prepared for the festival. In the Yowamushi Pedal Area, there will be a display of the same style bicycles ridden by the characters in the series as well as limited goods for sale. Many plans for events at which attendees can experience bicycle racing are also being prepared. These include the “Huge Test Ride Meetup” at which attendees can test ride the newest bikes from manufacturers and the “Mock Bicycle Race” at which attendees can experience an actual bike race. The event will be held on Sept. 7 from 10:00 to 16:00 inside the Chiba Velodrome Bank. Admission is free.
Yowamushi Pedal began as a popular manga by Wataru Watanabe that is currently serializing in Weekly Shonen Champion. The story follows high school student Sakamichi Onoda who’s obsessed with bike racing and shows his daily adolescent life as he challenges himself with interhigh races along with his friends. More than 8.5 million copies of the manga are in print. Capitalizing on this popularity, an anime adaptation began airing in October 2013. The second season of the TV anime, Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road, will begin broadcasting this October. “Grande Road” is a coined term that comes from the French word “grande,” meaning “great,” and the English word “road.” The title was named so for the intense battles that will unfold on the undoubtedly “Grande Road,” a span of track that stretches to the final goal on the third day of the interhigh competition.
