Ganba no Bouken, a TV anime series that was broadcasted in a total of 26 episodes in 1975, has now been revived in the form of new video. Thirty nine years after its broadcast, NBC Universal Entertainment is releasing a Blu-ray box set of Ganbo no Bouken on Dec. 26. This is part of a project drawn up by TMS Entertainment this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the company’s production of anime.

The box set, in addition to the 26 episodes of the TV series, also includes two theatricals, Boukenshatachi Ganba to Shichihiki no Nakama, released in 1984 and Ganba to Kawausotachi, released in 1991. It costs ¥39,800 without tax and is a complete set that is likely to please collectors as well. The Blu-ray version was remastered in HD, and the focus is on the beautified animation of this famous anime. In addition, a highly informative booklet will also be included in the package that will have as many as 52 pages (tentative).

The anime Ganba no Bouken was based on children’s literature written by Atsuo Saito. There are many names in the staff that go down in the history of anime, such as chief director Osamu Dezaki who is known from his work in Aim for the Ace!, Treasure Island and The Rose of Versailles, animation director Yoshio Kabashima, art director Shichiro Kobayashi, and art setter Kazuo Oga. The series depicts the fight of seven comrades, including Ganba, as they stand up to defeat Noroi, a giant white weasel who rules their home island with force and terror. It is known as a representative anime of the ‘70s, but the direction and the animation haven’t lost any of their colors even from a present perspective. It is a worthy piece not only for fans who look for nostalgy, but for the new generation as well.

It is produced by Tokyo Movie, a company linked to TMS Entertainment. This year is the 50th anniversary of TMS Entertainment for producing anime. As such, there are many related projects, and there are numerous new video software releases as well. Ganba no Bouken, however, is a piece that glows even among such accomplishments.
