Tokyo Game Show 2014 to Have 224 Company Booths, Over 20% More Than Last Year’s 181

The companies and organizations that will have booths at Tokyo Game Show 2014 were announced on June 27. The aim of the event is to promote worldwide the newest information on computer entertainment crossing various genres and all platforms. Presently, 224 companies will have booths at the event, over 20% more than the 181 companies announced at this time last year for Tokyo Game Show 2013. Last year’s event was a resounding success, with a final count of 352 exhibitors and over 270,000 visitors. This year’s event is off to a promising start as well.

It is expected that there will be more exhibits from companies overseas at this year’s Tokyo Game Show than there were at last year’s. Holland, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, and ASEAN-Japan Centre (comprised of 10 Southeast Asian countries) will all be participating in the Overseas Pavilion. Additionally, there will be exhibits from Ireland, Austria, Canada, Spain, China, Germany, France, U.S., Hong Kong, and Macao. As well as those domestically, participation from foreign companies is expanding. Chief among these are companies from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China.

There have been 310 applications submitted from within Japan and abroad (149 within, 161 abroad) for the Indie Game Corner, which was newly set up last year and is making a return again this year. It is expected that 50 applicants will be chosen to exhibit at the event. Maybe one will have the next big movement in gaming? The exhibit scope is also forecast to expand in the Smartphone Game/Social Game Corner, Game Device Corner, and Romance Game Corner (previously the Otome Game Corner).

TGS 2014 will be held from Sept.18-21 at its usual venue, Makuhari Messe. There is anticipation for announcements at the event of next-gen console games to release at the year’s end as well as announcements of smartphone and PC games.

Also, the raffle for the “Supporters Club tickets,” which are popular every year, will begin on July 9 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets cost 3,000 yen including tax and come with a bonus attached. They will be on sale until July 21 at 11:59 p.m. and the results of the raffle will be announced via email on July 25. Advance tickets for Public Day (1,000 yen including tax) will also go on sale July 9 at 10:00 a.m.
