Osamu Tezuka, who left big footprints on Japanese manga post WWII, has brought to the world many masterpiece manga. Among them are even many stories intended for young girls. From age 5 to 24, he was a resident of Takarazuka, the city home to the Takarazuka Revue, the influence of which can be seen in his work.

Now Osamu Tezuka and Takarazuka are teaming up with Otomate, which delivers content that captures the hearts of young girls. The exhibit Tezuka Otome Exhibit will be held at the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum to celebrate the museum’s 20th anniversary.

Otomate is a brand of games for females under the game company Idea Factory Group. It’s a popular game genre that represents otome games and includes worlds that girls dream of, fascinating characters, and stories they can empathize with. There are many representative titles of this genre including Hakuōki, Amnesia, and Hiiro no Kakera. These works began as games and developed into other related areas including CDs, anime, events, and stage plays.

Tezuka Otome Exhibit is a collaboration between Otomate, the trailblazers of otome games, and Tezuka’s work. Though it seems like a slightly unexpected combination, Tezuka’s work aimed at young girls, including Princess Knight, captivated young girls when they were released. The characteristics of these works are their cinematic techniques, original stories, and sweet love. This is right in line with current otome games.

An interesting point is just what will be created from this combination of content popular with girls that crosses generations. On the already released poster visual for the exhibit, the figure of Black Jack can be seen drawn in an Otomate style. The exhibit will begin on July 4 and run until Oct. 27. Check the museum’s official site for ticket information and hours.
