Ota-Q: "What anime character would you want as your dad?"

From May 25-29, we held a survey on the Tokyo Otaku Mode Facebook page asking you “What anime character would you want as your dad?” Now, the results are in! Let’s first take a look at the Overall Ranking!

In terms of total votes, Minato Namikaze is sitting in a league of his own. When looking at the trend in the ranking, it becomes clear that more so than the main characters, their dads and characters who become dads made the ranking (Minato Namikaze, Isshin Kurosaki, etc.). Next, let’s look at the results for the Male Ranking.

Highly popular overseas among males is the main character of Sword Art Online, Kirito. Because popularity of this series’ heroine is higher, this is a character we never would have thought would receive votes from males.

The most surprising character to rank in is Lelouch Lamperouge of Code Geass. Though there hasn’t been a new release in the series, it is still popular today. We wonder if the outcome was influenced by Lelouch’s protective, father-like treatment of his younger sister. Next up, let’s take a look at the results of the Female Ranking.

Popular among females was Levi from Attack on Titan who ranked in at No. 10 despite the fact that he shows no fatherly qualities. We wonder if his image is stronger as a dad or a romantic interest. Also popular on the Female Ranking is Inuyasha. Through this we can see that his popularity is still firmly rooted.

There are also several popular titles differing from those on the Male Ranking that prominently stand out. One in particular is the anime Black Butler in which appears the character Sebastian Michaelis who received many votes from females. This may have been influenced by the start of the Circus arc of the anime broadcast. Other characters to rank in include Minato Namikaze from the famous series Naruto and Son Goku from Dragon Ball.
