The Blu-ray and DVD of the hit anime movie The Wind Rises, which released in July 2013, will go on sale June 18. In commemoration of this, a “Photos of the Sky” contest will be held. Pictures themed after the sky will be accepted. More details will be available on a site to open June 1. This is a contest anyone can leisurely enter and enjoy.
The Wind Rises is the final full-length animated film by director Hayao Miyazaki, an anime director who is highly popular the world over. The film was showered in attention also for the fact that Miyazaki announced his retirement after its release. Announcements about his movies keep coming, and this summer, Director Hayao Miyazaki Works Collection, a collection of all 11 of his full-length films, from The Castle of Cagliostro to The Wind Rises, will go on sale. Among the announcements are those focused on last year’s hit work The Wind Rises. The Blu-ray and DVD of the film will be released as the newest title in the “Ghibli ga Ippai Collection.” Like those before it, this as well is a high-quality work.
The “Photos of the Sky” contest came about due to the impressive display of the sky in Miyazaki’s films, including The Wind Rises. Those who enter are free to use any theme they choose, be it “your favorite sky,” a “sky you long for,” a “sky that perfectly matches The Wind Rises” or something else. In addition to the picture, also required are a name (20 characters or less) and a reason why you chose the sky you did (200 characters or less). Other information including your name, address, and an explanation of the picture is asked for.
Categories have been divided into a student category (middle school and younger) and a general category (high school and above). One Grand Prix winner will be chosen from each category to receive a 100,000 yen travel ticket and have their work become original The Wind Rises merchandise. Winners will be announced in mid September.
