Shueisha has linked up with the free manga site Garaku no Mori and launched a new manga magazine called Garaku.mag. It is a rare occurrence for Shueisha to coordinate with another company’s site. Garaku no Mori began in May 2013 as a free manga site. It focuses on publishing works that overflow with originality. Garaku.mag can be called the paper magazine version of the site. A cross platform will be constructed that capitalizes on the originality of both the website and paper magazine.

Garaku.mag will release on the 17th of every even-numbered month. In addition to original works from Garaku no Mori, Garaku.mag will have exclusive content. Works to be published include a complete manga version of novelist Jiro Asada’s masterpiece When the Last Sword is Drawn by Takumi Nagayasu, who is known from Ai to Makoto and other works, and a specially written, completely overhauled version of Daijiro Morohoshi’s representative work, Ankoku Shinwa. The magazine will captivate the eye with a front cover specially drawn by popular illustrator Renji Murata.

The concept of Garaku.mag is “There are no borders in manga” and it is based around the themes of “rediscovering old works” and “cultivating talent of the next generation.” Their plan is to shine light on the masterpiece works that have shaped across many years the world of manga and at the same time actively promote works by young people.
