Monkey Punch’s popular manga Lupin III is becoming a live-action film that will release in theaters countrywide in Japan on Aug. 30, 2014. A visual has been released showing the actors who will be playing the series’ abundantly unique characters.
Playing the prodigal thief Lupin III is Shun Oguri. His partner Daisuke Jigen is being played by Tetsuji Tamayama and mastermind thief Goemon Ishikawa is being played by Gō Ayano. Also, playing Fujiko Mine, an unparalleled beauty who has caught the attention of many male fans, is Meisa Kuroki. Playing Lupin’s long-time rival Keibu Zenigata is Tadanobu Asano.
Because each actor is highly regarded for their abilities, anticipations are high, but what fans will likely be interested in is the newly released visual. Many fans have a unique image of the world of Lupin III either from the manga or anime. There are surely many fans who can also understand how spot-on this long-awaited visual is.
Above all, this can be seen with Shun Oguri who plays Lupin III. For 10 months Shun underwent intense training and lost 8 kilograms to portray the slim figure of Lupin. In addition to this, Tetsuji Tamayama grew out his beard to give himself a dandy look, Gō Ayano and Tadanobu Asano fused the distinctive attributes of their characters from the original work with their own personalities, and Meisa Kuroki perfectly embodies the difficult role of the sexy and enigmatic Fujiko Mine. Meisa even did her own wire action stunts using her extraordinary reflexes. The distinctive attributes of the characters are all clearly on display, and anticipation is rising for them to come to life in this new story. Look forward to the movie’s release on Aug. 30.
Lupin III by Monkey Punch began serialization in the first issue of Weekly Manga Action in 1967. The series attained popularity due to its fusion of stylish aesthetics with a comical touch. The series became an anime in 1971, and many anime have been created since then. The series is still popular even today, so much so that Lupin III is considered to be one of the representative characters of Japan.
