Hitoshi Iwaaki’s popular manga Parasyte is becoming a TV anime. It was announced on March 22 that the anime will broadcast sometime this year on Nippon TV and other networks. It was also announced in November 2013 that the series will be adapted into a two-part live-action movie to release in December 2014 and sometime in 2015. At the time of that announcement, the TV anime project was also revealed. Newly announced is that the anime will broadcast this year and that the broadcast will occur on Nippon TV and other networks.
Parasyte is a sci-fi manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki that was serialized in Monthly Afternoon (Kodansha) from 1990 to ‘95. It depicts the misfortunate fate of average high school student Shinichi Izumi who becomes infected with an unknown parasite from space. The work has over 11 million copies in print, and it has many fans even today, despite the fact that it’s been almost 20 years since it ended. Because of its high popularity, rights to the original work were given to a Hollywood movie production studio. This is why no movies have been produced so far, even though the work is such a hit. However, the Hollywood contract ended in 2013, so dozens of Japanese companies jumped at the movie rights, with them ultimately going to Toho who is created a movie adaptation. This movie is being developed at the same time as the TV anime.
Information released is still scarce, so look forward to information on the staff and cast being announced. There is no doubt that since this is such a large work, announcements made from here on will be big news.
