Kill la Kill is an original anime that was aired in two seasons from 2013. It is produced by Trigger, a studio started by the main staff of Gurren Lagann from Gainax. The combination of the staff’s affection, the animation that has a powerful touch imitating the cel animation era, and the speedy story development has made it into an intense anime that is hugely popular.
Now, this white-knuckle anime is collaborating with the first maid cafe, Cure Maid Cafe. The collaborative cafe, titled Kill la Kill Cafe, is open now until April 6 (Sun).
Kill la Kill Cafe is on the sixth floor of Gee!Store Akiba, which is located 5 minutes from the JR Akihabara Line and about 2 minutes from Exit 3 of Suehirocho Station of the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line. Cure Maid Cafe opened in March 2001, when the electric-gadget selling “Electric Town” image was strong, and it could as well be called the founder of Akihabara maid cafes. Its original concept, “providing delicious food and drink and a place to relax,” still characterizes the place, and it enjoys top-class popularity among the more than 50 maid cafes in Akihabara.
The interior is covered with Kill la Kill figures and posters. There are numerous related items arranged, including fans’ favorite scenes, original pictures, and even storyboards and character settings.
Of course, the drink and food menus are also filled with Kill la Kill collaboration items. For drinks, there are 10 characters to choose from, starting with the protagonist, Ryūko Matoi (two of these are alcoholic beverages), with each drink matching the image of the character in color and taste. And the food menu is intense! The Mankanshoku family’s delicious-looking deep-fried dish is reproduced in the “Mankanshoku Family Croquette Plate.” There is also a set called the “Tri-City Schools Raid Trip! Victory Meal,” which consists of roast beef donburi, four kinds of lightly pickled vegetables made in the image of the Elite Four, and rich takoyaki topped with mayonnaise and a golden leaf on top. Both of them are based on counterparts seen in the anime, and they are sure to fill you up!
The sweets also deserve some attention. There are three kinds: “One-Star Cake,” “Three-Star Cake”, and “Lady Satsuki Afternoon Moment - with Elite Four Sweets.” With these, you should be able to feel the atmosphere of being a Honnouji Academy student and relax in a refined way.
Another nice thing is that if you order from the collaboration menu, you will be presented with one of three not-for-sale postcards. Not only that, they are selling a “Ryūko Matoi Glass,” “Honnouji Academy Student Council Glass,” and “Ryūko Matoi Mug” in the cafe. You can also purchase these items on Gee!Store.com
Cure Maid Cafe will surely carry out collaborations with various works in the future, too. If you visit Akihabara and are looking for a meal or a place to take a break, by all means, make yourself at home in Cure Maid Cafe.
