Seibu Railway Galaxy Express 999 Wrapped Train Announced in Commemoration of the Release of the Blu-ray Box Sets

In commemoration of the Blu-ray box release of the TV series Galaxy Express 999, Seibu Railway has announced a “Galaxy Express 999 wrapped train.” The train is in service now for roughly half a month until April 4.

The Galaxy Express 999 wrapped train features, of course, main characters Tetsuro Hoshino and Maetel, as well as the Conductor of the 999. The train is finished off with a blue body color that brings out the nostalgia of the show. The inside of the train has been done up as well and is completely covered in Galaxy Express 999 advertisements. The pictures we were given don’t include the inside of the train, so you’ll have to ride it to be able to fully enjoy it.

Galaxy Express 999 is a deeply thought-provoking work by manga artist Leiji Matsumoto. “This work is based on my actual experiences. It’s a story about paving the way ourselves for a future that isn’t guaranteed. I hope that it is seen in Japan for generations to come,” says Matsumoto on his own hopes for the series. The extraordinarily impactful wrapped train wasn’t created just for fans of Galaxy Train 999, it was created to also appeal to the younger generation who don’t know the work, as well as to raise anticipation for the consecutive volumes of the Blu-ray box set.

The Blu-ray box set has been remastered using the latest digital techniques. This definitive edition features visuals and audio that is faithful to the original but recorded using new technology. Currently, Volumes 1 and 2 are on sale. Volumes 3 and 4 will release on July 25, Volume 5 on Aug. 22, and Volumes 6 and 7 on Dec. 19. Each one costs 28,000 yen (tax included). Those who purchase all volumes will receive Galaxy Express 999: The Starlit Sky is a Time Machine, which was screened at the “Children’s Space Summit” at JAXA in 2007, and Galaxy Express 999: Beyond the Diamond Ring, which was only screened at an event in Kagoshima in 2009.
