Atelier Escha & Logy to Broadcast in April 2014, Teaser Site Opens

On Nov. 6, 2013 at their 20th anniversary presentation, game maker Gust announced an anime adaptation of Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky. Being the first anime for the Atelier series, the announcement shocked many fans. Follow-up news on the work was recently announced, coming roughly two months after the first announcement. This curious TV anime will begin airing this year. In addition, a teaser site has also opened. News on the anime has also begun being released, which will increase excitement for the anime until it airs in roughly two months.

Gust is a studio with a large fanbase that has created many popular games. Their representative work, the Atelier series, was born from the 1997 game Atelier Marie. However, from this series of multiple games, the one becoming an anime is the PS3 game Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky which released in June 2013. Atelier Escha & Logy is unexpectedly the first anime for the series. Because of this, there is no doubt that fans have high expectations. Other popular news is that illustrator Hidari, who is well-known among anime fans for her work on Fractale and Natsuiro Kiseki, is the anime’s original character designer.

The setting of the anime is Twilight Land, a place that has welcomed the twilight countless times before and is slowly closing in on its end. In the land of West Haruka is a country that has found prosperity due to alchemy. The main character Logy is a student studying alchemy who travels to this country. There, he meets the other main character, Escha, who is trying hard to use her knowledge of ancient alchemy. The anime tells the story of these two.

Announced this time are Yoshiaki Iwasaki of The Familiar of Zero and Okamisan and Her Seven Companions fame as director and Tatsuhiko Urahata from the Saki series as series composer. Keiya Nakano has been appointed as both character designer and chief animation director. Studio Gokumi, which created Saki: The Nationals and Kiniro Mosaic, is creating the animation. The seiyū cast was also announced all at once. Playing Escha is Rie Murakawa, and playing Logy is Kaito Ishikawa. Both are popular, young seiyū whose appointment to the anime is drawing attention.

Even more news will likely be revealed at the two events to be held in March. Announcements of new information and a cast discussion are planned for the event “Gust Presents Anime and Games! Atelier Special Stage 2014” to take place at Dengeki Bunko Spring Festival 2014 & Dengeki Game Festival 2014 at Bellesalle Akihabara in Tokyo on March 16. A stage event is also planned for AnimeJapan to be held at Tokyo Big Sight on March 22. Keep an eye out for new information to be announced at these events.
