Various collaboration campaigns are being developed as the Feb. 22 theatrical release of the anime movie Bodacious Space Pirates: Abyss of Hyperspace draws near. Now, a cycling jersey project has been newly unveiled. Pearl Izumi, a top name in the world of cycling jerseys, has created original team jerseys themed after the movie. One is for the Bentenmaru cycling team and the other is for the Hakuho Jogakuen cycling team.
The story behind these jerseys is that a cycling team was created by volunteers of both the crew of the pirate ship Bentenmaru and the members of the Hakuho Jogakuen Space Yacht Club, both of which are shown in Bodacious Space Pirates. The teams also have official sponsors. These include the Harold Lloyd Insurance Agency, the Serenity Royal Family, the Lamp House, and other entities that main character Marika Katō is familiar with.
Both the Bentenmaru cycling team and the Hakuho Jogakuen cycling team have also begun accepting team member applications. The condition to becoming a member is buying that team’s jersey.
The “Bentenmaru Crew Only Ver.” and “Hakuho Jogakuen Space Yacht Club Ver.” jerseys costs ￥13,000 each (tax not included). Pre-orders are being taken now until March 4, and they will be shipped out near the end of May. Each jersey comes in XS, S, M, L, XL, and 3L sizes.
Bodacious Space Pirates: Abyss of Hyperspace is based on the original novel Bodacious Space Pirates by Yūichi Sasamoto. The series received a TV anime adaptation in 2012. Abyss of Hyperspace is the long-awaited movie adaptation. The anime is created by Satelight along with a talented staff beginning with Tatsuo Satō as director and writer.
