The opening and ending themes to the second season of the TV anime Yowamushi Pedal will be released simultaneously as singles on Feb. 19. Now, the jacket illustrations to these singles have been completed. For the first season’s singles, the members of Sōhoku High including the main character were depicted. This time, the jackets are made up of the members of the rival Hakone Academy, known as HakoGaku for short.
Juichi Fukutomi, Yasutomo Arakita, and Hayato Shinkai have been drawn for the opening theme “Yowamushi na Honō” by Dirty Old Men. Sangaku Minami, Jinpachi Tōdō, and Tōichirō Izumida appear on the jacket to the ending theme “I’m Ready” by Autribe. Surely, these have been done up to be irresistible to HakuGaku fans.
The designs for both the jackets for the first season and those for the second season have been created with a sense of unity. By lining them up, it looks like a confrontation between the members of Sōhoku and the members of HakoGaku, giving a sense of the series’ intense battles.
Furthermore, a campaign for these CDs will be held at Animate locations Japan-wide. Those who buy both CDs at the same time will receive a HakuGaku postcard as a bonus. This essential item for fans will also make use of the pictures on the CD jackets.
Full versions of promotional videos by each artist are also available to watch on YouTube. These PVs are also impressive in that they hammer out the individuality of the artists, which differs from the flowing visuals of the anime. The price of each single is ￥1,260 (tax included).
The original work for Yowamushi Pedal is a road race manga by Wataru Watanabe that is currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion (Akita Shoten). The series’ popularity accelerated even more due to the anime adaptation, and the series has broken through 7 million copies in print. Staff on the anime includes Osamu Nabeshima as director, Reiko Yoshida as series composer, and Takahiko Yoshida as character designer. The animation is produced by TMS Entertainment.
