A new Sgt. Frog flash anime series has been announced. The anime is titled Keroro, and it will be broadcast on the anime specialty channel Animax. The start date has also been announced to be March 22. Due to this TV anime series being such a long-standing hit, fans are hotly anticipating it.
Similarly to the TV anime series so far, Keroro is being produced by Sunrise. It seems it will even be announced as a parody work to Sgt. Keroro, a Sunrise anime enjoyed by many fans. Cooperating on the anime is flash animation studio Gathering, which has worked on anime such as Puchimas! and Donyatsu. Directing the anime is Haruki Kasugamori who is no stranger to gag works using flash animation and has worked on Battlefield Baseball and Chinyūki. It will be interesting to see what kind of new style director Kasugamori, who got his start in the world of commercials, will breath into the series.
The cast is also full of familiar faces with many seiyū including Kumiko Watanabe reprising their roles from Sgt. Frog. Members include Etsuko Kozakura as Private Tamama, Jōji Nakata as General Giroro, Takehiro Koyasu as Master Sergeant Kuroro, Takeshi Kusao as Lance Corporal Dororo, Chiwa Saitō as Natsumi Hinata, and Hōko Kuwashima as Fuyuki Hinata. We look forward to enjoying the performances from this wonderful cast.
The original manga Sgt. Frog by Mine Yoshizaki is currently serialized in Monthly Shonen Ace. The TV anime for the series began in 2004 and picked up support not just from fans of the original manga, but from children as well. Because of this, it has grown into a long-running series with over 300 episodes. Sgt. Frog, the leader of the Invasion Army Special Reconnaissance Platoon of the Gamma Planetary System, is tasked with preparing Earth for invasion and infiltrates the Hinata household, but he is easily captured by Fuyuki and Natsumi. Due to Fuyumi’s kindness, or perhaps to satiate his curiosity, Sgt. Frog begins freeloading at their house. However, the day has come when, together with his four other squadmates, he is to invade Earth…
