Trailer Releases for Director Yutaka Yamamoto’s New Movie Wake Up, Girls!

On Jan. 10, the new original anime Wake Up, Girls! will begin broadcasting. There is a lot of buzz for this work over the seven newcomer seiyū who have been appointed to the lead roles and the theatrical movie which will release on the same day the TV anime begins broadcasting. Heaping on even more excitement is Yutaka Yamamoto, who has worked on such masterpieces as Lucky Star and Kannagi, as director. Director Yamamoto continually challenges through various means the current state of anime. Even for Wake Up, Girls!, there is anticipation that he will throw something new into the mix.

In the midst of this excitement, new information was released on Dec. 16. First is a trailer for the movie Wake Up, Girls! Seven Idols. Though only 30 seconds long, as the title suggests, it shows seven idols performing and gives a glimpse into the story. It seems this will be a story about the hardships of seven girls who dream of becoming top idols. It’s also a success story about getting closer to achieving your dreams through hard work. This is a moving work that will make audiences reflect on their dreams and aspirations. Look forward to the release of this movie and the start of the anime. Also, the setting of the work is Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. There is likely something to be found here for those who watch attentively.

In other news, the theme song “Tachiagare!” has been revealed for the first time. This attention-worthy song is a joint effort between Satoru Kōsaki (Monaca), director Yamamoto, and scriptwriter Tōko Machida. Singing the song are Miyu Yoshioka, Airi Eino, Minami Tanaka, Yoshino Aoyama, Nanami Yamashita, Kaya Okuno, and Miyu Takagi who collectively make up the in-anime idol group that also shares its name with the anime. These seven were chosen from a pool of over 2,000 people who auditioned. Their job doesn’t just stop at being seiyū, they are also in charge of singing the theme songs, performing live, and attending events. Just like the characters in the anime who mature, they aim to mature themselves along with them. They are already being showered in enthusiastic attention from idol fans.

“Tachiagare!” will go on sale Feb. 28, 2014. It will be included in a bonus CD with the Blu-ray of the movie Wake Up, Girls! Seven Idols. The Blu-ray will be sold as a limited theater edition for ¥6,000 and an initial limited edition for ¥3,800 (both prices exclude tax).
