Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei gained huge buzz when an anime project for the series was announced back in October, and now, a TV series has been revealed. On Dec. 10, it was announced that the TV anime will begin broadcasting in April 2014.
Because the original light novel series is also hugely popular, this anime adaptation seems likely to become one of the most talked about for next spring. Directing is Manabu Ono who is well known for his work on many hit anime including Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere and Saki. Another noteworthy point is that the anime is being produced by Madhouse.
The original light novel series Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei is written by Tsutomu Satō. It follows a lousy student named Tatsuya Shiba who attends Magic High School and his younger sister, an honor student named Miyuki Shiba. The series has become a huge hit with over 3 million copies in print. The work is well known even though it started as an online light novel series. After starting online in 2008, the work accumulated 55 million views. Due to such popularity, the series began being published by Dengeki Bunko in 2011. Now, the series is expanding into anime. From its start online to becoming a published light novel series to now becoming an anime, the series’ expansion to the work has been rapid.
Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei has also been adapted into other media along the way. In 2012, two comic versions of the series, Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei Nyūgaku-hen (illustrator: Tsuna Kitaumi) and Mahōka Kōkō no Yūtōsei (illustrator: Yu Mori), were released. The series also expanded into three new manga this year: Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei Kyūkōsen-hen (illustrator: Tsuna Kitaumi), Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei Yokohama Sōran-hen (illustrator: Gin Amō), and Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei Tsuioku-hen (illustrator: Waki Ikawa). The development of the series into so much media is likely an indication of its popularity as well as its profoundly deep world. The anime will begin with Tatsuya and Miyuki entering high school. Even those who are just getting into the series with the anime are sure to enjoy it.
The first promotional video for the anime has already been released on the official site. Shown in the trailer are Tatsuya and Miyuki as well as their classmates Leonheart Saijō, Erika Chiba, and Mizuki Shibata. This too is a must-see.
