New information pertaining to the TV anime Wake Up, Girls! was released all at once on Nov. 29. Surprising news for fans was revealed one after the next, including the announcement that the TV series and a movie are being produced at the same time. The TV broadcast will begin on the same day the movie is released in theaters, Jan. 10, with the first episode airing at 1:23 a.m. on TV Tokyo. For those in Tokyo, it will be possible to see the movie first before the airing of the first episode.
The movie version, titled *Wake Up, Girls! Seven Idols”, will also begin on the 10th with stage greetings to be held in the suburbs of Tokyo on the 11th and 12th.
In news related to the movie, popular seiyū Haruka Tomatsu and Kana Hanazawa have been cast as the unit Anna & Carina who appear in the movie. The idol group of the main characters (Wake Up, Girls!) has become talked about due to newcomer seiyū being appointed to the roles. On the other hand, the members of the rival groups are popular seiyū. With the announcement of Tomatsu and Hanazawa participating, the composition of these popular seiyū supporting the newcomers at the center of the work has become clear.
The opening and ending themes have also been decided on. Both themes will be sung by the members of Wake Up, Girls. This will be the debut of the cast as the actual unit Wake Up, Girls. The growth of both the idol group in the anime and the actual idol group will progress parallel to each other. This seems to be a common strategy among idol anime. The CD will release on Feb. 26, which will be the day that Wake Up, Girls has its major CD debut. Fans will also be able to see the members of Wake Up, Girls at an event to be held at Akihabara UDX on Dec. 29.
Appearing at this free event will be the seven members of Wake Up, Girls––Miyu Yoshioka, Airi Nagano, Minami Tanaka, Yoshino Aoyama, Nanami Yamashita, Kaya Okuno, and Miyu Takagi––as well as director Yutaka Yamamoto and the members of the rival group I-1 Club––Yuka Otsubo, Minami Tsuda, Kaori Fukuhara, Nozomi Yamamoto, Satomi Akesaka, and Kiyono Yasuno. There is excitement for both this wonderful event and the start of the anime in 2014.
