Evangelion Interpreted Through Modern Techniques! Bringing it to Life with Kaiyodo Figures [2/2]

Mori Art Museum, Ueno is holding “Kaiyodo Evangelion Figure World” at the same time as the “Evangelion and Japanese Swords Exhibit,” which started on Nov. 22. Dioramas that heavily feature the Evangelion Revoltech series produced by Kaiyodo are being exhibited.

Revoltech is an affordable line of action figures made by Kaiyodo. The series started in May 2006 with the release of three categories of figures: Real Robot, Super Robot, and Humanoid.
It has continued to turn characters and robots from anime and manga into highly movable 3D figures. The joints are connected with a spherical revolver joint that gives added articulation, and allows the figure to do various poses. These figures are perfect for bringing a series to life as they do here.

“The event organizers invited us to join the Japanese Swords Exhibit, and were kind enough to let us hold this at the same time,” explained Hataoka, a representative from the Kaiyodo Figure Museum. The dioramas came from a “concept to ‘show how to create a fun space within a box’” and each one took an average of 2-3 weeks to complete. The fastest one was completed in 1-2 weeks (molds were custom-made for the dioramas). The dioramas were put together not by professional dioramists, but rather by the staff of the Kaiyodo Figure Museum. Each diorama makes an impact.

Scenes from the series were taken and put into the dioramas, including battle scenes with the Angels and signature character poses. Fans who have seen the series numerous times will be surprised to see different scenes, and even people seeing dioramas for the first time are sure to have a good time. To go along with the Japanese Swords Exhibit, some dioramas also include swords. Hataoka also feels highly of the exhibit: “I would really like anyone who comes to this venue to take a look.”
