Patema Inverted

Since its release in Japan on Nov. 9, Patema Inverted has created a huge stir among movie fans and anime fans alike. The film has also received glowing reviews, topping a recent satisfaction poll by Pia of responses taken from moviegoers right after seeing the film at a rating of 91.5%. Not just those in Japan, but people worldwide will now be able to enjoy this film. The film has already been released in France, England, Germany, South Korea, and Taiwan, and now it is coming to North America.
The company responsible for distributing the film in North America is an independent distribution company called GKIDS, which is known for distributing animated and youth-oriented films. These include unique animations and overseas animations, many of which––including The Secret of Kells and Chico and Rita––were nominated in the full-length animation category at the Academy Awards. The Japanese works they have distributed include Summer Wars, From Up on Poppy Hill, and A Letter to Momo. Patema Inverted was picked up as a new entry to this lineup for those in North America who want to relish watching this superb original animation. The release date has not yet been determined, but it will begin screening in major cities sometime next year.
The reactions Patema Inverted has received within Japan since its release have been superb. Plans to bring the film to even more theaters have been carried out in rapid succession, with these plans including ways to bring even more enjoyment to those who have seen it. Among these was a public recording of NotTV’s and Nippon Broadcasting’s program Hisanori Yoshida ga Anime de Takuranderu at the 7:25 p.m. screening of the film on Nov. 15 at Kadokawa Cinema Shinjuku Cinema 1. On Nov. 16, director Yasuhiro Yoshiura appeared at an exhibit for Patema Inverted and Patema Inverted: Another Side being held in Nakano, Tokyo for an autograph signing. More information on such events can be found on the film’s official site.
