Doraemon is not only Fujio F. Fujiko’s representative work, but is also well known as an anime. Next summer, the series’ first 3D CG animated film will be released. That film is titled Stand By Me Doraemon.
The movie is being directed by Takashi Yamazaki and Ryuichi Yagi, both of whom worked on the 3D CG film Friends: Naki on the Monster Island. Based on episodes from the original work, Yamazaki, who also directed Always: Sunset on Third Street, is also writing the movie to be a story deep with feelings of nostalgia.
Comprised of the episode concerning Shizuka and Nobita’s wedding called “The Night Before Nobita’s Wedding,” the commemorative-worthy first episode “Wandering from a Country in the Future,” and the episode “Farewell, Doraemon,” The film will give viewers the chance to enjoy once more these moving stories, this time in full 2D and 3D CG. In particular, the episode “The Night Before Nobita’s Wedding” was a full-blown love story in the older series...but how this will be used in the film is still to be seen.
