P.A. Works is an anime studio that was established in 2000 in Toyama Prefecture. Since 2008, the studio has brought to the world many TV anime and animated films. It has churned out talked-about hits one after the other including True Tears, Canaan, and Hanasaku Iroha. The studio’s characteristic is its forte for crafting original works. This year, it created anime based on the light novels RDG: Red Data Girl and The Eccentric Family. Its original title Nagi no Asukara is also currently broadcasting on TV.
One member of the creative force that has supported P.A. Works along the way is animator Kanami Sekiguchi. She was the chief animation director and character designer for each of the studio’s four standout works––*True Tears*, Canaan, Hansaku Iroha, and Tari Tari. Each character she creates is full of innocence and cheerfulness. Sekiguchi is largely responsible for the captivating shoujo characters that P.A. Works in known for.
A collection of Sekiguchi’s illustration work from P.A. Works was recently released. An abundance of illustrations from True Tears, Canaan, Hansaku Iroha, and Tari Tari are included, each with comments from Sekiguchi. This is Sekiguchi’s first art collection. In addition to illustrations, the book also contains an interview with Sekiguchi and comments from eight people related to her work. Furthermore, the cover is a gorgeous, exclusively drawn illustration that features the characters Noe Isurugi from True Tears, Canaan from Canaan, Ohana Matsumae from Hanasaku Iroha, and Wakana Sakai from Tari Tari all appearing together. This is a must-have book for fans.
