Pilot Film for Blue Uru, the Phantom Sequel of Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise to Be Released in 2014

It was announced that the production of Blue Uru would be resumed, and the decision to produce a pilot film was made earlier this year at the Gainax booth at Tokyo International Anime Fair 2013.

Blue Uru was planned to follow Gainax’s first theatrical animation, Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise in 1992. However, due to lack of appropriate technology and funds, they abandoned production, and the project has been at halt for 20 years.

Hiroyuki Yamaga and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto from the main staff of The Wings of Honneamise will participate in the production, the former as director and scriptwriter and the latter as character designer.

Blue Uru takes place 50 years after The Wings of Honneamise, but neither the settings nor the characters are related to it. The latest visual shows an enormous bridge and a person who appears to be the main character. What is it trying to express?

Due to the improvement of animation technology and the worldwide popularization of anime by “Cool Japan,” the circumstances of anime have changed a great deal in these 20 years. In what shape will Blue Uru return to life after the long hiatus? Look forward to a follow-up on this pilot film.
