To celebrate the release of Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo on Blu-ray and DVD on April 24, an event called “Eva Con” at which Eva fans can mingle will be held in Fukuoka on June 15. The event is being put on by Linkbal, a company that puts on machicon (large-scale street parties) all over Japan and manages the portal site Machicon Japan, which introduces machicon and gives information on large-scale machicon being held all over Japan; GroundWorks, a company that jointly promotes the Rebuild of Evangelion series; and Yomiko Advertising.
Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo is the third movie in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy. It was first released in Japan on Nov. 17, 2012. By March 31 of this year, this huge hit exceeded 3.8 million tickets sold and a box office revenue of 5.2 billion yen.
Since May 24, the event “Evangelion and Japanese Swords Exhibit” (sponsored by TV Setouchi and others) has also been ongoing. For this exhibit, master sword makers in Fukuoka challenged themselves with the world of Evangelion, reproducing spears and swords from the series, as well as creating original swords inspired by the series by freely using the traditional techniques of Japanese sword making. The exhibit features many newly produced swords on display. There are also plans to link up “Eva Con” with this exhibit.
Furthermore, in response to strong desires from Eva fans from all over the country, “Eva Con” will be held in major cities all over Japan after its stop in Fukuoka.
