Cool Veranda

This is a piece I did for the hanging scroll project “Shitsurahe” (Arrangements). The theme was “drink and the seasons as drawn by four artists,” and I was in charge of summer.

This is late morning on a summer day when the sun is strong and everything is covered in a white haze.
A girl is cooling off on her garden veranda while having a drink.
I incorporated the summer theme with the idea that it would be great to drink some unfiltered sake and gaze at morning glories.
I included water imagery to create a scene that brings to the viewer’s mind how nice it is to cool off in the summer (and, in contrast, to make them think of the strong summer sun).
I provided this piece with the hopes that whoever views this scroll as it hangs will feel comfortable and refreshed.
