An Intentionless Photo

My female cousin, who came to Tokyo to look at colleges, called me up and asked me, “Could you show me around Tokyo? If there’s time, I’d like to go shopping.” Being that she was unfamiliar with the Tokyo subway system, I met her at a train station near the college. We walked around Jimbocho and Akihabara looking at old bookshops and stationery shops, but in the end she didn’t buy anything. When I asked her what she wanted to do next, she responded, “I want to go to Asakusa to see the Skytree.” So we went to Asakusa. Looking at her enjoying the under-construction Tokyo-Skytree and the packed Kaminarimon, it hit me - I had, in no time at all, become used to Tokyo. After that, we fed bread to the birds and black-headed gull on the Sumida River Terrace, and I took pictures of her waving to a cruise ship with my camera. “It’s embarrassing to have candid pictures taken of me,” she said, so I took a picture from the front of her standing in front of the Sumida River. It wasn’t until after I saw her off and examined it did I notice that there were several pieces of trash in the background of the photo as well.
